Our wines tell the story of our family and the essence of our vineyards. In every glass, the character of tradition and the identity of our plots are expressed with authenticity and personality.
Our winery, located in Samaniego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, is a reflection of our identity: 36 hectares of our own vineyards, divided into 50 micro-plots, where the diversity of soils, altitudes, and orientations allows us to craft wines with character, true to their terroir. Wines where the influence of the Sierra de Cantabria, the Atlantic microclimate, and the rich variety of soils shape a unique personality in every bottle.
From the old inn that gives Ostatu its name to the modern winery we have today, we have evolved with a clear philosophy: a balance between tradition and innovation. We are committed to sustainable and certified organic viticulture, dedicated to preserving our environment and ensuring the best expression of our vineyards.
Ostatu is more than a winery—it is a place of hospitality, connection, and celebration. A place where every glass tells the story of our family, our land, and our passion for creating wines that inspire emotion.
Welcome to Ostatu.
Ostatu is vineyard, land, and balance. The magic of our wines is born in our vineyards, where each vine tells the story of a unique landscape and a viticulture deeply rooted in time.
Under the protection of the Cantabria-Toloño mountain range, we cultivate 36 hectares of our own vineyards, divided into 50 micro-plots at different altitudes and orientations.
A mosaic of clay-limestone soils and a unique microclimate, where the meeting of Atlantic and Mediterranean climates breathes life into vines that grow with character and authenticity. The south-facing orientation of our vineyards, along with the mountains as a natural shelter, creates the perfect balance of sun, rain, and fresh breezes.
Here, the land is both heritage and commitment. We have always practiced a viticulture that respects the environment—a respect that today is reflected in the organic certification of our vineyards by ENEEK.
We care for the soil, the ecosystem, and the legacy that came before us. Poor yet balanced soils force the roots of old vines to dig deep in search of the best conditions to nourish themselves, resulting in wines with soul and a unique expression.
At Bodegas Ostatu, sustainability is at the heart of our identity and the driving force behind every decision we make, from the vineyard to the bottle. Our philosophy is based on a simple yet powerful principle: taking care of the land means taking care of our future and that of generations to come.
For years, we have embraced a regenerative agriculture model in our vineyards in Samaniego, Rioja Alavesa. This approach not only enhances soil quality and environmental health but also elevates the excellence of our wines.
With our “Viñadiversidad” project, launched in 2021, we aim to create a natural balance where biodiversity and organic matter take center stage. In this way, our vineyards function as true agricultural ecosystems, promoting pollination, natural pest control, and soil conservation, which in turn act as carbon sinks.
This commitment to respectful and regenerative viticulture runs deep. Our father took the first steps in the 1980s by eliminating chemical fertilizers and recovering native grape varieties that were at risk of disappearing. Over the past 20 years, with the new generation joining the winery, we have intensified these practices, bringing our vision of sustainability to every aspect of our work.
